Printer Driver on MacOS

Printers have more features when you use the corresponding driver for the printer. This is helpful for the large Canon printers, as they have more finishing options available.

Check Your Current Printer Driver

  1. Go to System Settings
  2. Click Printers & Scanners
  3. Select the printer you wish to check
  4. You can see which driver you are using under "Driver version" at the bottom of the pop-up
    1. Apple's generic driver is a number with one decimal place (ex. 10.4)
    2. A printer-specific driver will have three octets (10.4.5)
  5. If you are using an older driver or the printer has changed models, you will need to re-add the printer using the steps below

Adding a Printer With the Correct Driver

  1. Add the printer using the steps under Adding a Printer and implement the following changes
  2. Under “Use” select “Select Software”
  3. Find correct printer driver and select

Printer Stapling

  1. Timber, Forest, and Tree 2 have the ability to staple as a finish when using the correct driver
  2. Set Staple Settings
    1. Select the printer in the Mac settings
    2. Go to “Options & Supplies” in printer
    3. Select the “Options” menu
    4. Pick “Staple Finisher” in “Output Options”
  3. When Printing
    1. Scroll to Finishing
    2. Click the “i” icon
    3. Turn on Staple
